What did Fredo Corleone actually do?

My thoughts:

* The novel is overrated. I liked it only because I got more back information on the characters. But it was terribly written.

* Someone mentioned the "latest Godfather book". Puzo only wrote one Godfather book and the Michael portions of GF II aren't in there. The latest Godfather book was written by someone else in the style of Puzo. But I don't know if it should be considered canon.

* From the way Fredo is characterized in the book and in the movie, there's no way he knew it was going to be a hit. He's stupid, but he loves his family.
