Default What did Fredo Corleone actually do?

Hi,

I was watching The Godfather Part II last night for like the 10th time. There is a part of the storyline I dont fully understand.

What is it Fredo actually does to betray the Corleone family. I know he lies to Mike about never having met Johnny Ola, and then Mike catches Fredo talking about Ola later.

Is that it? My only other guess is that Fredo opens the curtains in Mike's bedroom so Hyman Roth's assasins can try to kill Mike?

Maybe the novels explain Fredo's bertayal better?

Please help this slow on the uptake Godfather fan.

Peace,

KennyBanya

Fredo had become bitter and resentful of his kid brother's rise in the family and his own relagation to menial tasks. He bagan working with Hyman Roth (through Johnny Ola) to take Michael out and probably hoped to takeover as Don.

He may have assisted in the shooting attempt at the Lake Tahoe mansion (after the big party) and definatley later in Cuba. He obviously had been in Havana before since he admitted that Johnny Ola had taking him to see the "Superman" sex show his last trip out.

Michael pieced it all together and gave Fredo the "kiss of death" at midnight to let him know.

The Godfather Trilogy is overrated.

I agree ...somewhat.

As a trilogy, it does fall apart. However, The Godfather is a great piece of filmmaking that is much greater than the whole work itself.

Part II was okay. I enjoyed the prequel parts with Deniro as the young rising Vito Corleone much more than the chapters with Pacino that paralleled Michael's own rise.

Part III blew.

Agree. I refused to buy the box set because of Part III, but subsequently got I & II.

I'm going to have to disagree just a bit. III is the weak link of course, but it didn't blow; it had some good stuff in it.

And II is one of the great sequels of all time. Some say it was better than I; I say they are equally brilliant. DeNiro's Corleone was as good as Brando's (different, but both great). And every scene with Fredo was fantastic in II.

Finally, the glare on Pacino's face when Keaton tells him she didn't miscarry - it was an abortion - is one of the best angry looks in the history of film.

This is probably stretching it a bit.

Part III didn't "blow" but it definitely would've been much stronger if it weren't for SOFIA [censored] COPPOLA.

I'm a sucker for parallels and cyclical stories, so I like III.
