Do you think Jack, kind of betrayed Al? Giving a headsup to Hearst that Al is prepared for war?

[/ QUOTE ]

No, I think he was working Hearst (he expressed a desire to do so several times, both to Al and the chubby actress). It was flattery to convince Hearst he's above Deadwood (and that Bullock, Swerengen, etc can be expected to self-destruct on their own without Hearst's involvement) couched with the threat of Hearst winding up stuck in the middle of a war. Hearst is bravest when he has other people to do the fighting for him.

It didn't occur to me that Jack betrayed Al. On the other hand, I didn't completely get that scene between Jack and Hearst. Specifically, I didn't grasp why Hearst seemed to get angry at Jack.

I don't think Jack betrayed Al. He was nervous.

Hearst got upset because he realised he was needlessly putting himself in danger and more importantly straying from his true calling (pursuing the colour) and wasting his time in Deadwood.

Hearst doesn't take council from anyone and didn't appreciate Jack pointing out that Hearst had gotten himself mired in a pissing contest. Even though Jack was right, nobody tells Hearst his business.

I will definitely have to watch it again to really pick up everything, but I mostly enjoyed it. I really wish the good guys could have taken down some of Hearst's henchman for [censored] and giggles though.

Nice flash from Stupid/Jeanine too. Yummy.

That girl is breath-takingly beautiful. When she's onscreen, I have trouble taking my eyes off her.

I liked that this ep was like 100% tension, but they did so much build up for a showdown that it's impossible not to feel let down. I'm sad to know that the movies aren't more ready to go.
