I think an RFID manufacturer claimed they made it to "the magic nickel" price point for short range chips. I guess this was the inflection point they expect the technology to take off.

The readers are still fairly expensive, at least retail... I'm sure you get a price break if you buy 1000 of them. [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

How 'bout Harrah's lease about 800 of the PokerPro tables and have instantaneous results and no dealers needed:

If the WSOP winners money still comes out in a cardboard box, I doubt if they will mess with the nostaglia of real cards and real dealers

i came up with the idea for those tables and was ready make zillions off of it, but then found out they were already making them. bummer.

very true, i don't expect those electronic tables in the wsop, but it seems like a natural for casinos. i assume the mentioning of them was mostly a joke, but years and years from now who knows. a month a long event could be done in 2 days.

Considering that Harrahs didn't even shell out for new decks of cards for the $50k buyin tourney, I don't think they'll be willing to shell out for this any time soon.
