Default Re: More Frustrating: Playing Bad or Getting Unlucky?

My home tourney just proved a lot to me this week, as far as this thread goes.
I finished on the bubble, pushing as shortstack when my K8 connected with a board of KT7. I got called by my dopey friend who limped with AA, and I busted on the bubble. But despite busting in just about the worst spot imaginable, I felt ok afterwards.

I felt good because I made some very good plays earlier in the game, and played very well overall in the tourney. I didn't even feel that bad about the hand I busted out on. I felt it was the right play, and most of the time, I am doubling up or taking the pot there.

So, I really did not regret any of my play during the tourney, so I wasn't as frustrated overall at the end.

Playing bad poker will eat you up inside.
Bad luck is part of the game, it is always annoying, but no where as bad as bad play.

My own poor play, by far. If I'm getting unlucky that's out of my control. But my own play is within my control and when I mess that up it becomes an ego/pride thing. When that happens I become a total donkey

I HATE playing badly. HATE it

But...I'm usually already mad when I start playing badly. For example, perhaps I was doing perfectly up until I rivered two pair and got reraised, didn't even consider that he could have trips, and finally convince myself to call although his bet is TELLING me he has me beat.

I get mad over this, then play bad poker, and get mad that I'm playing bad poker, and also get mad that I can't stop being mad.

You guys must play bad more often than I do.
When I play bad, I just think “well, I deserved that” & go on.

This sounds like a good time to take a break and then get mad at yourself for taking a break.

It's typically not correct to play loose.

Definitely playing badly, when I get unlucky I think, "wow, what a great table I'm on, I'll soon win it back"
....until 5 seconds later and the fish decides to hit n run
