I think the biggest threat of the bill is on background checks for young students trying to get jobs. Right now, in its quasi state, a company may see online gambling as a small risk. If this legislation passes, anyone that continues to play could ruin their chances for employment that requires a background check.

I definitely have my concerns about the bill passing and profitable online poker is in trouble for most of us if it does, but explain something to me. When a company does a background check on me and I am playing poker legally (it will still be legal for me to play), what exactly are they going to find that will send up red flags? A European bank account? I'll be playing through a proxy if I still play, so no one is gonna know that I am visiting the websites except the proxy operator. I am worried about this bill, I'm contacting my senator on a regular basis, and you should to, but this is not one of my concerns.

I think the poster that mentioned background checks was talking about criminal records. The federal legislation does not criminalize betting. Only Washington State and eBay seem to want that.

This kind of bull happens all the time, which is why our country is in such a shithole right now.

If it does pass and somehow get enforced, come and live in England. Even when we make thousands at online poker we don't need to pay any taxes here (except the rake of course)

I needed a little well-thought out intelligent optimism on this issue.

-That's true selective enforcement is the government's middle name. Look out highrolling tournament winners.

Oh, come on it was like 317 to 100 for the vote it wasn't just republicans. Put your ax to grind elsewhere although it was an awesome post and I thank you--but getting Democrats to join on any venture increasing the scope and power of the government and nanny state is about as hard as getting 13 year old boys to go look in the girl's showers.

Yeah, and they regulate it and it's perfectly legal and acceptable, right?
