Dids,

are you going to the Fremont Oktoberfest this year? It's a great value for your buck, and the quality of the different brews is second to none.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's not the kind of thing I enjoy typically, but I might check it out.

For anyone in the Nashville area, Beerfest is the last weekend of this month. Buy tickets online, because this year it'll probably sell out ahead of time or within 30 minutes of doors.

1554 is one of my favorites. It's widely available, relatively cheap, and very good. In fact, New Belgium doesn't brew anything that I don't like.

It's not widly available, some how the state of iowa got skipped during new belgiums spread east, you can get it in chicago now, but not here . During the school year I always had a friend who's going to school in missouri take loads of the 1554 and fat tire back up everytime he made the trip, but during the summer i'm screwed.

Phil,

"Have you had Young's Double Chocolate Stout? Very solid."

No, but it sounds f'in great. I will keep an eye out for it.

I picked up some Mackeson triple stout at Trader Joe's and was unimpressed. It was OK, but a little too sweet and a tad on the bland side.

My local brewpub (that had the Russian Imperial Espresso [I said Chocolate earlier, I think, but that was wrong] Stout) has had an Oyster Stout this month which is really great.

JB,

I believe crushed oyster shells are somehow involved in the brewing process. If you try real hard, you can make out (or make yourself believe) there is a tiny hint of oceany taste somewhere in there. But not really.
