I agree, but Leach, Goodlatte, and Kyl have been trying to get this passed for almost 10 years, and it hasn't happened yet. [/ QUOTE ] Yesterday's arrests show that the federal government doesn't need a new law to prosecute the employees of online poker sites. They think the laws that are already on the books give them all they need to lock these people up for years. |

Re: Could There be Arrests at the WSOP?
[ QUOTE ]
Now tell me how those guys who were arrested are any different from the executives who are running PokerStars, Full Tilt, Bodog, and all the other online poker sites. This quote from the U. S. Attorney should scare the hell out of them: "U.S. Attorney Hanaway promised the indictments are "but one step in a series of actions designed to punish and seize the profits of individuals who disregard federal and state laws" during a news conference Monday. That means top casino executives will have to worry about personal exposure if they try to catch a connecting flight in the USA, as did Carruthers, says Walters." [/ QUOTE ] I don't know the CEO's of the other sites so I can't comment on their ethical standing. I do have friends in the sports handicaping business that have told me stories about the CEO of BoS, and he sounds like the type of guy prison was invented for. One story centered around him bragging about being a "knee-capper" during his stint in Jersey. Frankly, if you are going to be dumb enough to 1) blatantly violate the Wire Act by taking bets over the phone serviced by a US number and 2) step foot in the US, you are a moron and get what you deserve. Not that I have an opinion or anything.... |

Here's an article speculating that Calvin Ayre of Bodog could be next: http://www.theonlinewire.com/articleView.aspx?ID=1102 It looks like he will be in Vegas on July 23, if he's not already there. [/ QUOTE ] Rumor has it that the Bodog Conference during th ME has been canceled.... |
