Default Could There be Arrests at the WSOP?

Using the rationale behind the recent arrests of online gaming executives, any employee of an online poker site in the United States could be subject to being arrested, including all of those employees of poker sites like PokerStars and Full Tilt who are currently at the WSOP.

Think about that. As far as our government is concerned, PokerStars and Full Tilt should be treated the same as illegal bookie operations. Even if they would only go after the top executives of the sites, people like Howard Lederer, who I've heard basically runs Full Tilt, and Lee Jones, the poker room manager for PokerStars, could be in the same boat as the execs who just got arrested.

Even members of the Full Tilt team, like Ferguson and Ivey, as well as the PokerStars spokesmen Raymer, Hachem, and Moneymaker could be at risk of being arrested for promoting illegal gambling operations. This could get really, really bad, folks.

I like how Lawman has turned into the "Chicken Little" he accused Oliver Tse of being regarding the "death of poker" with his own gloom and doom posts about the banning of online gaming and the chances that people will be arrested at the WSOP.

Look, a blind person could see where our government is heading with all of this. I'm just putting out an extreme example of what could happen, but it's not totally out of the question.

According to USA Today, the indictments yesterday were "part of a wide-ranging probe of what the American Gaming Association says is a $12 billion online gambling industry." If you don't think that this "wide-ranging probe" includes online poker sites, you're crazy.

Keep your head in the sand if you want to, but I'm telling you that the worst is yet to come. Here's the USA Today article on yesterday's arrests, for those of you who aren't afraid of the facts:

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/2006-...e-gaming_x.htm

Now tell me how those guys who were arrested are any different from the executives who are running PokerStars, Full Tilt, Bodog, and all the other online poker sites. This quote from the U. S. Attorney should scare the hell out of them:

"U.S. Attorney Hanaway promised the indictments are "but one step in a series of actions designed to punish and seize the profits of individuals who disregard federal and state laws" during a news conference Monday. That means top casino executives will have to worry about personal exposure if they try to catch a connecting flight in the USA, as did Carruthers, says Walters."

Here's an article speculating that Calvin Ayre of Bodog could be next:

It looks like he will be in Vegas on July 23, if he's not already there.

I agree, but Leach, Goodlatte, and Kyl have been trying to get this passed for almost 10 years, and it hasn't happened yet.

What exactly is different from last year, I'm sure the DOJ could have swooped down on the Rio, but they stayed away.
