basically you need to either start a business CIC thinks will be beneficial to canada or you need a net worth of at least $800k and the willingness to hand over $400k of it as a five year, interest free loan to CIC.

failing that, your last option is to buy a farm.

[/ QUOTE ]

Man, screw Canada. That 400K loan is the equivalent to pissing 150K away in loss of purchasing power and opportunity loss.

Anyone know anything about moving to Mexico?

Joker,

How serious about this move are you? It doesn't seem like you've researched locations very well. Is there a particular reason you want to stay in North America?

I always wanted to live down on the Baja. Wonder how much it would cost to live down there.

I haven't done any research yet. I don't really know how to go about it so I came here first to get some ideas. I am really serious. I don't like the fact that I could be arrested for being a casino affiliate. I'm going to monitor the Florida situation closely and if it goes bad, I'm gone. I would rather live in North America but I am going to look into Australia and New Zealand also.

So English being the main language or at least widely spoken is a priority? What other things are you looking for? How important is climate? How important is the exchange rate (obviously the more favorable the better, but how important is that)?

I can speak a little spanish and could be fluent in a few months if I started studying. English or spanish speaking countries would be best. I'm not worried about exchange rates. I prefer warm or temperate climates.

After my ~1 month visit to Buenos Aires, I'd say look into that. You can buy property without too much hassle, even as a foreign national, the exchange rate is favorable, and the climate is pretty mild. Another nice thing is that your timezone is pretty close to the US, unlike somewhere like Australia or Europe, so talking to friends in the States, watching US sporting events, etc, isn't any trouble. Not much English flying around, though.
