Re: I fold a set
[ QUOTE ]
Is the turn an auto cap given straight possibilty out there? Ok, if I cap turn, do I bet river, what if raised? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, especially at this level. The first reason is pure value: this guy can have too many hands you crush, and you have 10 outs on the rare case that he has the straight. Second reason being, your opponents will be pretty straight forward on the river in most cases. So if you cap and he leads, you can just call. The right play for a made straight on the turn would be to c/r the river, but few players at 2/4 are savvy enough to do this. So you can bet pretty fearlessly if checked to. If you do get c/r, sigh and call. |

Re: I fold a set
I think you missplayed ALL streets.
I'd: 1. Fold preflop 2. Bet/raise flop 3. Cap the turn. 4. Call the river. |

Re: I fold a set
SB probably has 44,66 or two pair at least as often as the straight. This is a horrible fold.

Re: I fold a set
I would call the river. Since you under-represented your hand on the flop, SB could have a lot of hands besides he straight.
Since he is loose and limped in from the SB he could have almost anything. He might have been going for a c/r with a good Jack or planned to just call with a decent Jack. He might have made two pair on the turn or have 63 for what he figures is best pair and a straight draw. He might have J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] X:diamond for TP and a flush draw. |

Re: I fold a set
Preflop is all right, I think. I also don't have a big problem with the turn. SB will have a straight fairly often here. (32 straight combos are possible, and your set cuts into the possible two-pair hands to some extent.) A pair plus OESD type hand is also possible, especially since Villain isn't really that passive for his VP$IP (he's a bit on the aggressive side, really), but it partly depends on what Villain makes of your flop/turn play. You have played your hand like it could be a flopped monster, and also you did wake up when the obvious straight hit.
You shouldn't fold the river, though. And I like a flop bet. Edit: Regarding the turn, for Villain to be bet/3-betting with a hand like J7 or 76, that has to also mean he didn't bet an OESD or top pair on the flop. Which seems inconsistent with his aggressive play on the turn. So I think that's another reason fear of a straight is legitimate. |

Re: I fold a set
the villian called a raise in BB with 63o and on another hand called T3s to a single raise in from his sb.
Both hands were against me and first hand he hit full house on turn ( i had top pair) and second he hit gut shot straight A-T on river for split pot. Maybe that psychologically was also reason for my bad play in this hand. |
