Re: What\'s more popular in B&M, Limit or NL?
The most important thing to remember when playibg NL live is not to laugh out loud.

Re: What\'s more popular in B&M, Limit or NL?
I'd do the opposite, actually. Once you know NL (which I'm only learning), play at the low NL is so bad it's like a goldmine. You're playing fewer hands which means more observation time. And you're building up a healthy bankroll to take on either the mid-level NL or the mid-limits, whichever you choose.
Low limit is just far far higher variance for less expectation. |

I couldn't help myself, but Villain was the kind of fish who knows he's a fish and gets a kick sucking out with 87o (which he did, by flopping the nut straight against my KK). Was laughing in his face so wrong? I also said "Come back soon!" as he racked up his 6 or 7 buyins and left the table. He replied, "Thanks for letting me win so much money." That's the kind of fish that I love, because I feel like I'm earning my EV by giving him a fun time. |

Re: What\'s more popular in B&M, Limit or NL?
[ QUOTE ]
Hmm.. well, since limit bankroll tends to last longer, should I start with limit to improve picking up tells (I've only played online, never live), improve postflop play, etc., then move on to NL games after I've grown my roll a bit and gotten used to live play? [/ QUOTE ] What do you play online? If you're a winner at that, you're probably OK with that live. I've gone over to the 1/2 and 2/5 NL darkside because I can't get a 6/12 or 10/20 game here. I'm finding that my results in NL are a lot better than limit, at least in the short term. A question for the board. What's equivalent to 2/5 NLHE in limit? 10/20? Some people are comparing 10/20 NLHE and 30/60 LHE, but I'd think that the 10/20 NLHE would play a lot bigger. |

I'd say you could probably earn more from 2/5 NL live than 10/20.

[ QUOTE ] The current boom of 1/2 and 2/5 nl will die out sooner or later as the bad players have their bankrolls disappear and lose interst [/ QUOTE ] Have their bankrolls disappear to whom? Do you think there are lots of tough pros at a 1/2 table? The only big winner at these levels is the rake, just like in comparable sized limit games and 3/6 limit games certainly aren't dying out. [/ QUOTE ] Individual NL games break more easily than limit. Doubling up or loseing an entire stack are the points at which a player is most likely to get up and call it a night. I'm not sure why people are so convinced that NL cash can't die out, considering that it has died out in the past. I'm sure it's safe as long as tv poker stays popular, but if that dies out for whatever reason, I doubt there will be many NL games worth playing. |

Re: What\'s more popular in B&M, Limit or NL?
Im not gonna quote 3 different posts but
1) Implied odds are better in NL, but pot odds are usually better in limit 2) People dont prefer to play reels, technology advanced and that is what casinos have now (although I did see some old school reel machines in the el cortez) so that is a piss poor analogy 3)The rake is 1/2NL is not tough to beat. The rake in baby limit games live is murder |

Re: What\'s more popular in B&M, Limit or NL?
here in canada from what i've seen, no-limit is much bigger than limit..... and largest casino in canada used to have 6-12, 10-20 and 20-40 limit regularly. i asked how often they have 10-20 now and they said NEVER...
i do think the rake in 4-8 limit is pretty hard to beat. and if it's beatable, then the rake is probably much bigger than your net win rate. when they told me NEVER 10-20 limit, they gave me the name of a small casino that does 10-20 and 20-40 or said i should switch to no-limit (suggested it was quite beatable if you're good). nice thing about 1-2 no-limit is you can sit for an hour and it will barely cost you anything in rake/blinds. can do the same thing in 4-8 but blinds will start to hit you alot harder |

Re: What\'s more popular in B&M, Limit or NL?
Well for once I wasn't crucified across the board...seemed a mix of support and laughter at my assertation. I still say that the average low level fish that comes to buy in for a 1/2 game and loses 300 - 600 at one sitting won't be back for a month while the guy that sits at a 3/6 - 6/12 table can make his 300 last for a much longer time...
I do agree with some of the posters that these players are playing for fun and don't have the "bankroll" that we have in the sense that we see it but they do have a "recreation" bankroll that is used up all at one time when they get cleaned out for a few hundred at one time on either a bad beat to another fish or to a skilled player |
