What\'s more popular in B&M, Limit or NL?
What's more popular in B&M, Limit or NL? I noticed that online it appears NL is quite more popular at small stakes, given the TV coverage. However, when you get to the higher limits (30/60 limit and 10/20 NL), it appears limit is favored.
Basically, how does B&M compare to online? If I wanted to train for high stakes cash games, what type of game is more favored? |

Re: What\'s more popular in B&M, Limit or NL?
Just play both and decide which you like more and which you are better at. I've talked to people from Cali and they say LHE is way bigger than NL. At FW it's close to the same but there is almost always a 20-40LHE going and a 5-10NL isn't *always* going.

The main reason you see the higher stakes favor limit is bankroll conservation...To play NL at such high stakes only the truly strong and extremely rich can survive. The current boom of 1/2 and 2/5 nl will die out sooner or later as the bad players have their bankrolls disappear and lose interst

Re: What\'s more popular in B&M, Limit or NL?
In general, both are equally popular in most larger casinos, but for higher stakes, limit hold'em is (and will probably forever remain) the king.
It is VERY rare to see a truly high stakes NLHE game (truly high being blinds above 10/20). Usually high limit poker areas have 20/40,40/80,80/160 etc, with mixed games thrown in every now and then. Most larger rooms have several tables of 1/2 NL and 2/5 NL, and several different limit games (ranging from 3/6 to 20/40 or higher). In general, if you want to climb the high stakes ladder, I would recommend concentrating on mixed limit games, and save NL skills for tournaments, but that is just me. |

Re: What\'s more popular in B&M, Limit or NL?
in califorina, most B&M casinos have way more limit hold'em tables than NL or other forms of poker, and in my opinion, LHE is generally more profitable than NL, because many fish in LHE games are willing to pay a capped preflop bet just to see the flop... However, bad beats are more common in LHE than in NL because of the implied pot odds for people to chase (a 2 outer) to the river. Therefore, knowing when to muck your aces, knowing when to chase to the river (when the odds are right and your draws are live), and having good composure when taking a bad beat to avoid going on tilt are three keys to becoming a successful full ring LHE player at a B&M cardroom

Re: What\'s more popular in B&M, Limit or NL?
I dont think the 1/2 or 2/5 games will die out. Most of the 1/2 donks and the richer fish at 2/5 are shot takers. They don't have bankrolls. The race track has been around for 150 years and you see the same morons losing hundreds year in and year out, every time they go to the track. Why would poker be any different?

Re: What\'s more popular in B&M, Limit or NL?
I think playing limit is a lot more fun and interesting than playing no limit. You don't see as many old fashion reel slots anymore -- everyone wants to play the video slots because they are more fun. Same goes for limit vs no limit. I guess only time will tell.

[/ QUOTE ] Jesus, what a waste of time and effort. If, for whatever reason, you believe your ceiling is 10/20 limit or the equivalent, why would you ever bother learning enough poker for mixed games? The only answer is, "For amusement or edification," and if OP was interested in that answer, he wouldn't need to post this thread in the first place. OP, Depends on your limits, but my Tunica experiences over the last few years lead me to believe that low-stakes NL games are just about even with comparable limit games, with the difference being that limit seems to have more regulars and NL seems to have more fish/WPT wannabes. |
