Pet Peeve: When you make a list and you have two people tied for one spot, they still take up two spots on the list.
Your list should be
1.
1.
3.
4.
5.

In any case, I'll be first in line to see a new Scorsese movie, he might be the only contemporary director who carries that kind of weight with me. Though I'd also line up to be among the first to see a new Charlie Kaufman written film.

2. Terrence Malick
3. Steven Soderbergh
4. Sofia Coppola (so far)
5. Federico Fellini

Zucker, Abrahams & Zucker.

No deep stuff, but always good for some laughs.

CDS,

Among ones already mentioned:

PTA
Tarantino
Guy Ritchie
Wes Anderson
Kevin Smith

Coppola, Scorsese, Spielberg, etc. too, but their films are often such major events that they are almost too obvious to mention.

Darren Aronofsky and Todd Solondz are two on my list that haven't been mentioned yet.

MB: I've been a big Linklater fan for a long time. Excellent director.

Kevin Smith
Guy Richie
M. Night Shyamalan
Jim Sheridan (In the Name of the Father, Some Mother's Son, etc)

Each has made more than one movie I adore, and never one that I regretted watching.

This contrasts with directors like Ridley Scott who have made enough pictures I hate that I would never see one just because their name is on it, but I would still say I'm a big fan because of certain works.

I will never miss his movies too. I wish I put him on my list.
