If I won half a million dollars, I would invest it, and live off the interest. Then invest in a proper bankroll for a beatable limit, and only use my BR money for poker. If I go bust, that means I'm not a winning player, and I'd quit playing. I would in no way put the majority of the half million at risk for poker.

Why change your limit or quit unless you were doing very well or very bad you have no reason to change limit. Your wind fall has nothing to do with your poker.

If you think you are good eneough use some of it (say $50k) for a bankroll for higher buy in tournaments.

I have no idea how old you are but I suspect you are young, in my case I'd buy blue chip stocks that yield dividends to merge into my portfolio. Kids through with college, house paid for, cars paid for, no real debts. Thinking about retirement in 6-7 years.
