Greg - The largest buy in I should have stated. It was a 50k sit n go with 11 players. Has anyone seen this event on TV.

Not everyone gets off on a challange. I have a lot of respect for someone who says "I have no need to do anything, except be true to myself and take care of my family ".
Personally, I play poker because It's fun and I like making the money. If I can keep getting better at it ie; making more money, then I'm happy. I don't feel a need to prove myself to other players or even myself for that matter. I've never been a particularly competitive person. This might sound odd but to me poker is about playing the best game I can. It's not so much about beating the other players as it is staying on top of my game. In order to make money I have to beat other players. That's just how the game works. I get my enjoyment from winning the money not beating another player. That may make sense to some, not to others. As long as I'm having a good time and making cash I'm good. I'll either get better at the game or I won't, in which case I'll play only occasionally for fun. If I'd won 4 million dollars winning the wsop I wouldn't feel the need to play a 50k buy in just "for the challenge" or to prove how good I am. Anyhow there's a luck factor involved. In the Morongo 400k tourney, superstars of poker I think it's called, I saw Doyle Brunson with two pair AQ get knocked out by a set of 9s caught on the river. Does that mean the guy that beat him is a better player? To me it doesn't necissarily mean he's better. It means he got lucky on the river. The Plaza tourney is one tourney. If someone doesn't feel like playing in it then that's all I take from it. Just my plain old humble opinion. |

Wow they really did make it like the very early WSOP. With some promotion and satellites, they probably could have gotten atleast 100 even at $50K. |

This is an awesome thread.
It's always fun when people show up and weigh in on a months-old discussion as if it was still going on. But the best part is the passion with which this argument raged for pages, at the end of which we learn that the tournament where Greg Raymer tragically disdained a chance to prove that he is the best actually attracted only 11 people. At least 3 of whom were family members. You can't make this stuff up. Greg might not rethink his decision to avoid this tournament, but I bet he would like to take back his prediction that it would not be significantly +EV for him. |
