Full Tilt does this to me whenever I open more than like 3 tables.
I was thinking about getting more ram (I only have 512mb) but someone told me they didn't think this was the problem. |

Any somewhat modern computer should be able to handle the 2D software that most poker sites use with no problems. Its strange, I know people with 512 megs of ram that run party fine and some with 2 gigs that have their computers crippled by the software.

Not sure what's the problem, but some things to check:
You said problems only started the past 3 weeks or so... what changed during that time? Any newly installed hardware, software, drivers, viruses or trojans? You said "other programs open and close slowly" so try to run JUST partypoker and no other programs. Do you still experience the problem? Open up Windows Task Manager and monitor the Performance and Processes tabs to confirm what is taking up CPU, Memory and networking resources. Then you can see what is "running in the background" too. Look at the info after a clean reboot, during play, and again when slow down happens. Are you resizing tables? If you stop resizing, does the problem still happen? How much VIDEO ram do you have? 1GB of regular RAM doesnt matter as much. Also, do you have the latest video drivers for your video card? Do you have a "complicated" graphically-intense wallpaper? Try a default clean simple one. Have you tried doing a clean re-install of Party Poker? Remember to backup your Notes.txt and HandHistory files first. I'd try that since you said when you close PP, it seems to bring "everything back to normal" Are you up-to-date on Windows patches? That can fix bugs. You should be doing this anyways, even if there is no slow down. What OS are you running? I hope Win2K or newer. CPU? Video card? Laptop or desktop? How old? that's all i can think of right now... |

I am not using PT or pahud or anything related to these, during the slowdown.
It doesnt matter if I boot up and only run party, or if i run party while doing other stuff, like internet or other poker sites. As soon as party loads, very slowly, everything slows down. Once party loads, the problem doesnt resolve (although it may get slightly better or slightly worse, from time to time). It also seems to run much slower when i'm trying to do anything with one of the lobby windows up, instead of a game table. I am not multitabling. almost exclusively tournaments, one at a time, since the upgrade. Windows xp. Nvidia Gforce 6800. Pentium 4 3.2 gh. 1gb ram. Dunno. I think i'm gonna pay more attention to the seeming correlation between the lobbies (main or tournament), to see if its related thereto. |

The comp I use to play poker:
Intel CELERON D 2.6ghz 750MB pc2700 ram <----- that's the crappy kind 80GIG harddrive(I even think it's a crappy 5600 spindle speed) integrated graphics Basically a bottom end computer. I regularly play 6 to 10 tables for about 6 hours straight. I also typically run PT and PAHUD and sometimes 2 clients at once or mozilla. The party software still does not affect performance much. If I open up media player then I will get lag(it gets more noticeable as time goes by). But if I don't use the media player I get no problems. This should mean that the lag is a hardware problem or an install problem right? I know dual core CPU"S cause lag in Party. Some people have fixed the problem by setting affinity for the client to one core. It turns out the dual core chips cause really bad lag with a number of programs(not just party). This would make sense if people with 2 gigs of ram are having problems(they are more likely to have dual core chips). You guys might try that out and report back if it helps. |
