does Party make your whole computer run slow? Why?

Whenever I run party lately (past 3 weeks or so), it makes everything on my computer slow down.

Other programs open and close slowly, and even my mouse drags across the screen like its moving through mud. And it doesnt go away.

What the hell is party running in the background on my machine? Its not like the party program itself is like 10 gigabites or something. I have a 1gb ram setup, so its not me.

Thoughts? Nothing else does this, except Party. As soon as i close party, everything is back to normal.

...and you're not running anything else at the same time as you're running Party?

Happens to me all the time, especially if I open more than 4 tables.

Rebooting is the only thing that fixes it, but it still comes back after a couple of hours.

2 gigs of RAM seems to work fine..... Yes, it's obscene.

My machine ran really slow the other night while 4-tabling party. was better (but still not normal) when i closed other stuff, including pokertracker.

I've had exactly the same problem. I have PT and PAHUD running at the same time. Funny thing is that I just added an extra 512MB memory to my computer so I can watch a movie etc at the same time on it,and the only result I'm getting is it being slower then before.

At least I know now to not look for the fault in my hardware!

For you guys that are also running PT at the same time...

If you're autorating players as you're importing hands - make sure that you're not autorating yourself (There's a checkbox on the top on the general tab in the ring game stats window). I accidentally unchecked that box a couple days ago and struggled through several sessions of slowness before I realized what was causing the problem. If you have any significant number of hands logged for yourself - autorating yourself at every import will quickly bring your system to a screeching halt.

This is a bug in party's software ever since the major update that has been driving me crazy. I don't know what to do because it doesn't look like party even acknowledges the problem or is ever going to fix it.

Do you guys think it would help if me or someone else wrote up a form letter and tried to get everyone to email it to party?

Oh yeah, I don't know why some computers have this problem and others don't but it doesn't seem to be highly correlated with computer speed. I know someone who has two gigs of ram and still experiences the exact same problem.

I stopped playing there in part due to this "slow-down" caused by the upgrade

sounds like a memory leak somewhere. on the other hand, i'm super glad i've never experienced it. sweet.
