I don't like just calling along here, and after analyzing it, I don't necessarily like the line I took.

Your play this hand was perfectly fine.

Have I just fell into a paralysis by analysis trap? I think the fact that caught quads on the river to bust a flush has me thinking I just got lucky and didn't play solid poker.

A free card is available to me, but I pass on it. I honestly don't know if this was a mistake or not.

Read-dependent. Against unknowns, I would assume that checking that turn to you means they're still on the draw. Betting is therefore imperative.

SB double-crossed you that way by check/calling his made flush. But that was pretty stupid, because it gave you a free card possibility with a worse hand (and let UTG+1 draw possibly for free with, I'm assuming, A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]).

Maybe. Here would be my thought process throughout this hand -

Flop - I have a set but on a mono-tone board. The chance of someone flopping the flush isn't very high. Even if they do I have about a 33% of boating up. A bet to me, means nothing. Uh oh a raise could mean a flush, a flush draw, two pair, overpair with a diamond, lots of things. 3-bet the flop because I'm at worst break-even equity and in all other cases pretty far ahead. If I'm capped, then I worry about the flush.

Turn - No diamond is good to me. Checks to me are good. I bet because no strength here means my hand is probably good, if I'm check-raised then I'll worry if someone holds the flush.

River - Payday!

I've seen people play the hand exactly the same way just with an ace of diamonds. I think you played it fine.

*Grunch*

Even if there is already a made flush out, you have 7 outs to beat it on the turn. Most likely either the UTG+1, SB or both are on a FD, and you have the best hand.

You have the equity, so exploit it and 3-bet.

If I calculated correctly, your odds are 1.99 to 1 to hit full house or quads by the river. Definitely not a fold after the flop.
