I noticed noone suggested 3betting the flop, actually I don't see that advice very often. Is it usually wrong? Are there situations where 3betting the flop is right? What about if you think villian in on a draw? or do you want to wait for a safe turn card to raise?

Of course, but these sick guys will probably call anyway. Its ok to play like this, there is a big danger in commiting your whole stack with just one pair when almost any hand could have called that preflop raise [/ QUOTE ] So do I increase my standard raise, or just start raising more with big cards and assume they won't notice? |

Just raise as much as they are willing to call.
I think this guy would have called much much more preflop |

Alot of splashing around goes on at the $10NL level. It almost doesnt matter what you raise preflop. A 4 - 5 BB raise at that level from ANY player can mean anything. Each table is a bit different, but you got to raise a bit more to punish them for calling with junk.
Depending on your table, I found success at that level by prepping the table the way you want by being aggressive. If its common for people to bet 4BB's and still get a bunch of callers, then your standard raise should be more. By prepping the table, I mean in late position steal a couple hands by betting more than normal to establish your norm raise. Say 6 - 7 BB's. Then if you are still getting community pots with those raises, you are gonna have your opponents make some costly mistakes. Lets face it, if someone raises .40, its only .40, so people are gonna play hands that should fold normally. Now .60 - .70, they might think twice. Each tables a bit different. |

In hindsight, I like the idea of pushing the flop. At that moment, my thinking would have been that I was afraid of a set. But since I turned out to be willing to call an all-in on the turn, might as well be the first to fire.
In this case, I think he folds to an all-in on the flop -- it was the turn that brought his flush and straight draws. But overall, probably still a better play. |

At NL $10 I used to 3 bet the flop in this spot fairly frequently... It seemed like flop raises with TP were pretty common at that level because everyone has "he's bluffing" syndrome.
