I've noticed what you're talking about with money and handling the food but it's not like thats specific to Lockhart BBQ. I've been to numerous taquerias, soul food places and just anywhere there's one or two people working where they routinely handle money and your food at the same time. A lot of people who are really picky about sanitation and hygiene issues never say much about money. Kind of funny considering that money is maybe one degree cleaner than sh!t. Maybe. There's been times where I've smelled some used bills and almost gagged.

As for Kreuz, we'll agree to disagree. Outside of some steak houses it's probably the best beef I've eaten.

Oh yeah, taste in BBQ is so subjective.

As far as the hygeine issue goes, Rudy's does it right. If the moneyhandlers have to pick up your sausage or something, they use a piece of wax paper. Just wish these podunk outfits would shape up. I'd frequent them more often.

Rarely. I'm in Houston once or twice a year, though.

amoeba (and others),

Do you happen to know about BBQ places in Houston? If so, would love your opinions. I'm a big fan of Goode Company BBQ. My favorite anywhere is Salt Lick, but I haven't tried most of the places you mention, except County Line, which is good but not great imo.

Next time you're in Houston, just drive out to Fulshear and hit Doziers. It's like 45 minutes but worth every bit of it.

edit: Actually it's probably <30 mins from Sugar Land.

I always end up eating chinese/vietnamese/korean whenever I'm in Houston. I'll probably check out the BBQ next time I'm there.

I haven't found any place too great in Dallas though. Not a huge fan of Sonny Bryant's.

Not even close.
And I grew up in Cincinnati.

Best I ever had was Gates BBQ. Too bad their LV restraunt closed.
I'll try Salt Lick. But it's across town.

If this is true, then you really owe it to yourself to spend a long weekend in Austin. I've been to Gates and practically all the other KC places, and--with the possible exceptions of Oklahoma Joe's and Jack Stack--they really do pale in comparison.

Yeah, I'll be going to the new Red Rock casino/hotel when it opens. I've been excited about it for months. But, no, not interested in BBQ. Thanks, though

I want you to look deep inside yourself and find the will to love life, Elaine. You can do it. It starts with picking up a sliced beef sandwich and saying: "I DO DESERVE YOU!"

Diablo, were you aware of this development?

'Cardo, might this sway you in your choice of a new locale?

I'm bumping for info - has anyone been here yet? I'm headed out there over Memorial Day weekend, and would appreciate some commentary.
