Update. Visited the Red Rock property out in Summerlin yesterday where the Salt Lick is located. Apparently they've hired one of the founder's sons to work there full time so it should live up to the original. He was back there cooking and the smell almost drove me insane. By the way the new Red Rock property is beautiful. I think they're due to open 4/19. You Vegas people should go get some of that BBQ.

Salt lick isn't bad but not my favorite BBQ place in Central Texas.

Coopers in Llano is fantastic. I love The Salt Lick though because of they serve family style and it is BYOB.

Yeah, I'll be going to the new Red Rock casino/hotel when it opens. I've been excited about it for months. But, no, not interested in BBQ. Thanks, though

Well you'll be excited to hear they have a 615-seat bino parlor with restrooms right in the bingo room.

Like another poster said, I've had Cooper's in Llano once and that was very good.

mainly, it depends on what I want.

for pork ribs, I like Artz' rib house.
for brisket, purists may disagree with me naming a chain but I like Rudy's extra moist brisket.
for sausage, Southside market in Elgin is pretty good and you can get it outside elgin.
I'm not a huge fan of beefribs but the ones at County Line are ok.
There are also many mom and pop places in Taylor, Bastrop, etc...

but the BYOB and atmosphere of the original saltlick is pretty cool. I think thats the reason most people go.

that and its all you can eat for around $18.

I've never had Cooper's but heard it was good. I'll have to get over there sometime.

OMG Elgin sausage is so good! There's a place in LaGrange that has pretty good sausage too.

County Line is utter crap, and I've always thought Artz was mediocre. I'd go to the Green Mesquite before either of those.

It's been years since I ate at Rudy's and wasn't real impressed, but I've heard from enough people how good it is that I'm willing to give it another try with an open mind next time I'm in town.

If you're ever down thataway, try Dozier's in Fulshear.

edit: This all kinda missed the point anyway. The Salt Lick is now opening in VEGAS!

I haven't been to Green mesquite.

artz' baby backs are pretty good and tender.

I forgot to mention Stubb's. Decent food and good location atmosphere.

As for Rudy's, Moist brisket and Turkey are my standards, other offerings are perhaps better elsewhere.
