why do some live casino's only let you buy in with 50 BB?
this is something that is keeping me from casinos

IMO it makes the games juicier, but higher variance, as worse players have a better chance of getting lucky and winning because it becomes closer to limit poker. therefore, bad players come back for more and don't lose all their $$ so fast.

That said, its very +EV to play to accumlate chips early on, you want to double up early, so you have a decent stack, and can play with the donkeys who luck into a big stack and are horrible horrible horrible at big stack play.

I like these games as they are fun, and I think you can get additional edges live.

Long story sure, i think bigger win-rate, bigger variance in this case.
(but a lot less hands per hour).

How about a specific question, hoping anyone with experience can help me out on if it's a good play, bad play, mediocre play, or terrible play.
Assuming a fairly typical, loose table. What happens if I get AKs or AKo in the BB or SB? I'm thinking that if there's a raise and a couple callers before it gets to me then maybe moving in would be a good play. I don't know if I like the idea of putting $100 at stake in a coin flip like that, but with the dead money if I only get one caller this is a +EV situation correct?

It may be +EV but it depends on what kind of variance you're willing to take.

Given that a lot of standard casino raises will be to 6xBB or so, I'd push it w/ AK+ if there's more than one caller. However, be prepared to get called by things like QJ and JTs and 55, etc. because once donks see "so much money in the pot" they won't let it down.

Not that I'm an expert, I don't have more than 20 or 30 hours of casino play under my belt. But in general, the tourists will tend to overplay top pair to the river, so instead of trying to jam too many pots preflop or on the flop, I'd advocate you see what develops. If you hit a flush and overpot it, they'll still call you w/ TPMK.

Oh, and don't bluff, almost ever. In general, no bluffing, no slow-playing.

I'd say you should still make cbets, which often are complete bluffs, but I'd also say it is a rare occasion to follow up on turn/river without improving.

cbets are under a different category than bluffs. so yeah, make cbets if you narrowed down the pot. don't cbet if there are 3+ players, unless you are confident it has a chance of success.

feel free to splash around, but keep some reds in your pocket to keep your stack full. splashing around will reduce your hourly but it will also keep you sane.

oh and a standard casino raise can be as high as 10xbb, i played in a 5-5 500nl game where the standard opening raise was 35-50.
