I've played about 6 NL DeepStack tournaments and have yet to cash
I love 'em though, wouldn't change a thing.

I love them too, I really enjoy the fact that I can lose 2 or 3 pots I get involved with early and not have to go all-in in the next 20 mins.. usually I'd lose a couple pots early, be down to 1k and have to push/fold before first break.

They do take long, but if you have the time it's fun.

I played in the first Deep Stacks tournament that was held, made it to the chip leader with 50 left, took a few horrible beats, and busted out in 35th or so after playing for about 8 hours. Yeah, they're fun, but it can be extremely frustrating to play for that long in a $33 tournament to only make $60.

I really enoy the deepstack tournies. When I can't sleep a few days a week they have smaller ones like 100-200 entrants at 230 AM which are fun and take slightly less time. I think I have done about 8 holdem deepstacks and have cashed 4 times, inclduing a final table in a pl 30 with 150 people. You can sustain a lot of beats and still be in good shape which is what I really like about the format. Also I dont mind that they take a while since if like you also plan on doing the tenr 45K gted or the 3R you will be up anyway. (For the 6:15 one that is) took a tough one out of the 20 tonight with 15 left

ONE OF THESE DAYS I Will win a situation like this right outside of the final table, but depsite playing for 8.5 hours and winning 100 dollars I would do it every time.
The edge you have is really a lot higher than in the fast paced mtt structure, its even a ton better than rebuys without having to deal with people who start with a ton more chips than you who were at wilder tables during the rebuy period.

Hey Gardock, I saw that one, I'm at the other table still, very card dead but hopin to make somethin happen and make my time worthwhile.

This is only my 2nd time playin these but I like it, a lot of actual poker play (a.k. flop and past play). It's been a rollercoaster but fun--even if you don't make it real far you get a lot of time playin for 22 bucks i guess.

I have always stood by the fact that Stars, while they did a great thing, went WAY WAY overboard with this idea. t3000 or so with 20 or 30 minute levels would have been good and wouldn't have taken 13 hours to finish. I think all the lower buy in ones during the week should be 20 min levels or less chips and the $100 should be the current format, and maybe add a $200 or $300 as well with the current format.

if they had less chips or shorter levels, it wouldnt be much different from some modified stars structures, like the sunday tournies.

it's a niche tournament purely for the experience, and i think they suceeded. nobody should give these tournaments credit for being huge moneymakers, let's be honest. You can invest your time in other things and make way more.

People enter these tournaments to get the feel of playing really deep in a tournament the way it's done in the big live tournaments, like WSOP events. If you change any of that, you lose that appeal. From a business perspective PS shouldn't change anything.

I honestly like the idea of practicing a tournament like this instead of only getting to do it for big buy ins. I love the idea of getting to play more poker without worrying about getting into push/fold mode. It does indeed take some time but if I hope to ever do well if I qualify or buyin to a major tourney I would greatly appreciate the time sitting down and seeing the flow of this style of tournament. Wow! I was just reviewing my post and wonder do you think it's a "niche" tournament. I think it brings skill much more into play than most online tournaments because of the slower structure. Wouldn't you rather have the big buy in tourneys online like this?

Excellent point. I am playing in a couple now in expectation of going to Borgata and playing in the main event there. It's been too long since I've played deep money, so I'm playing a few of these as practice. They're fun, because it's actual poker.
