From the 5/10 thread
[ QUOTE ] I was kind of joking with that post. I know why alot of guys dont move up to the 2k game. Its a hell of alot harder and at the begining you generally win less for more stress than you could at the 1knl games. The swings are huge, the opponents are way more aggressive but smart about it, and nothing is ever given away. So why play? Because eventually money isnt the only motivator to play cards, and you want to see how good you can get. There are alot of 1knl players who have a bigger roll than me, but I still choose to move up. Im 20 and go to college, so its not like my monthly nut is very high (2k max). If I make an extra 5k tomorrow, ill be happy but it wont change my life in any real sense. So id rather push myself to be the best that I can and see how I stack up against some of the best players in the world (and yes I think some of the top 2k guys are the amoung the top 100 nl players in the world). I think pretty soon ill be beating the 2knl game for alot more than the 1knl game and ill be 10 times the player I was before. [/ QUOTE ] I have got the impression that some of the posters on this board want to play as high as possible (boosted, aba and durrr) while others are happy to play at lower limits even though they could probably win (more) if they chose to play higher (fsu, samo). Maybe this is age-related, I don’t know. I am 23 myself and I am very happy to make a small amount each month at 5/10 and 10/20 and I don‘t really have any ambitions to be a regular at higher stakes. So I am just curious about what peoples ambitions are when it comes to poker. If you are only in it for the money, if you want to be as good as possible or if you dream about being the one the railbirds talk about. |
