Choi is nothing but a backup first basemen He's a good backup, but a backup none the less.

[/ QUOTE ]

in your opinion. personally, i think he should start for the red sox and youk at 3B. if a guy can start at 1B for a 90 win+ team, then hes not a 'solid backup'.

his top 3 comps for this year are:

ortiz 2003
kusick 1976
durazo 2001
hafner 2004

those are not 'backup' seasons. of course he may not have a season like any of those guys, but his career to this point shows huge similarities to guys ready to "breakout".

[/ QUOTE ]

There is a pretty big difference in body type between those guys and Choi.

[/ QUOTE ]

choi 6'5 245
ortiz 6'4 230
hafner 6'3 240
durazo 6'3 240
kusick 6'3 232

now i havent seen much of choi on film, so i may be unaware of a 3rd testicle or tail or something.

2. Body fat and muscle tone can't be figured from said weight and height.

I'm certainly not saying Boston shouldn't take the shot if they have room on the roster.

Your question was more to whether I thought Choi would improve on his numbers moving to more of a hitters park.

This is still shocking considering how stellar Dodger management has been over the last year. *Cough* *Cough*

27 years old. Lifetime avg of .240 and 40 HRs.

OBP has to be factored in. Which I am sure Theo thought about. And the price was right (well below right).

Will that increase in BOS? Will his SLG increase in BOS?

The guy has always come off as passive and now he is going to deliver in the pressure of Boston?

I'm just not a believer.

That said it still doesn't make sense the Dodgers gave him up for nothing.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't know if he will be able to deliver in BOS. I am not good at measuring intangibles and I am sure there are passive people in BOS that did well (Bellhorn). But, for 350K or whatever it is, you don't think it is worth a shot?

Either way, I am glad we agree that the LAD should have at least tried to get something. He is only 27 and has a lot of upside for 350K.

Defintely worth a shot if you have $750k and a roster spot.

Speaking as an Indians fan, the Tribe's major league roster is extremely clogged right now. Decisions will be made in the next week and may involve someone getting cut, outrighted to the minors, or traded. They might have wanted to put in a claim on Choi, but the Indians had a plan this offseason and stuck with it. They'll put out the Broussard/Perez platoon, because Perez hits leftys hard, with 10 HR's and 24 RBI vs lefties in only 135 ABs.

A few retard Sox fans might not like him (Bellhorn) cause he strikes out a lot (Bellhorn) and walks a lot (Bellhorn) but he should pwn for a couple years cheaply (Bellhorn).

reliable enough to judge whether one player is 'signifigantly' bigger than the other.

you can tell the body fat from watching these guys on TV? ok, so how are they different from choi?

or you can admit you pulled something out of your ass and got called on it

I am not a Padres fan, but he is definitely going to help them. If fans boo because he strikes out, oh well, they won't see many at bats since they leave during the 6th anyways.

I never said someone was bigger than someone else. Just by looking at them there is no way Durazo or Ortiz look anything like Choi. They have much beefier upper bodies. Choi is much more equally distributed.

I did mostly pull that out of my ass though.

He goes through stretches where he looks like Babe Ruth and stretches where he looks like Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Used properly, he could be of help to the Sox. With the Dodgers, it seems like I saw him make an inordinate number of bonehead plays--throwing to the wrong base, taking too many pitches when the pitchers knew he was in a slump--making me think he's not the shaprest tool in the shed. Could be just coincidental with the days I happened to be at the ballpark.

I've been a Bellhorn fan for awhile, as far as I know Barfield will start. Since Barfield is much younger and probably not significantly worse a hitter right now its the right decision for them, but I was hoping he would go somewhere where he could get more playing time.

Even if they just use him as a pinch-hitter (er, pinch-walker?) he should come in handy.
