[ QUOTE ] Cy Young is the answer, but nobody mentioned the right record. 749 complete games. [/ QUOTE ] Wow, yeah this is the one. [/ QUOTE ] He "only" started 815 games (91.9% of his starts were complete games). Nolan Ryan started 807 (222 complete games). Roger Clemens 690 (118 complete games). Last guy over 300 was Gaylord Perry. |

New York Islanders
19 playoff series wins in a row. For a team to break it they would have to win 5 cups in a row. |

The knuckle-ball isn't completely dead and has allowed guys like the Niekro's and Wakefield to stay in the game for a long time. Another knuckler, getting more frequent appearances, and staying in shape and eating well MIGHT have a chance to approach it. [/ QUOTE ] This was my thought. Some guy could come around with a wicked knuckler who was capable of pitching every other day (certainly possible if he doesn't mix in more than an occasional fastball) and actually gets a team to go along with it. Not that farfetched. |

Joe Louis - 11 1/2 years Undisputed Heavyweight Champion [/ QUOTE ] Or, how about just having the concept of "Undisputed" last for 11 years in boxing.... |

(1) How about having "both" your ears bitten off in a boxing match. That would break the current record.
(2) Having an anouncer utter a player's name more than Madden says Brett Favre. (3) Having two balls bounce off your head for homeruns in the same game. |

With 6'5'' Philip Rivers playing football, most of these records are safe.

(2) Having an anouncer utter a player's name more than Madden says Brett Favre. [/ QUOTE ] Letterman had Madden (Caliendo) on the other night and he was talking about the SB saying "Peyton Favreing" over and over without blinking an eye. Was pretty funny that Caliendo has worked that into his shtick. |

While not entirely impossible it is unlikely someone will repeat Oscar Robertson's triple-double season. The cool thing about that breaking that record would mean a very enjoyable season fans of basketball, more than I can say about most of the record-breaking in sports.

Although a lot of teams would have a shot if the cap increased by a few mil and teams were willing to spend to the limit... Ducks/Sharks/Sabres have a young core. The luck required would be insane. |

Cy Young's numbers are really off the charts and pretty much untouchable.
Hockey fans confirm, but wasn't Gretzky MVP of the NHL his first nine seasons as a pro, or something? No one in sports has ever come close to doing anything like that, I don't think. One that has not been mentioned: Pete Rose's 4,256 hits. |
