yo stinkypete,
you staying at commerce for LAPC? Im coming out feb 8th, with a one way ticket. Im bring my clubs. Montabello (sp) is the closest course Ive played, nothing special but cheap and less than 10minutes from commerce valet. I have played strawberry farms, pretty nice about 1hr south. Also heard good things about trump national (?) also a little way south. What do u guys shoot ? I like to gamboool.. |

I have not played it. Unlikely I ever would so I admit I have not had first hand experience at it. However, that place looks like exactly the worst kind of course. Artificial, ridiculous, impossible to play in a proper fashion, i.e. on foot quickly. The hideous waterfall with the awful cart path tunnel I have seen pictures of makes it look like an extremely expensive miniature golf course. It seems to embody everything wrong with golf, particularly American golf. I would play it only if I couldn't get on the worst dog track muni I think.

Surprisingly, I had a pretty good time at the PGA West Stadium course. Best of the Pete Dye courses I have played, admittedly not that many. Although they require carts and houses abound and the course has so much dirt moved given the land, it is the best time I have had at a course with those problems. You can do a lot worse.

Arroyo Trabuco in Mission Viejo. Some great holes and I think it's still under $100. Stands up to any of the other O.C. cases mentioned in this thread (Tijeras, Strawberry, Oak Creek).
