naj,

i always pictured you as a black chip craps player. especially a few days after the as you described it 'heater' betting the bowl games.

but i can see not wanting to risk your buzz especially if there were women around. it is a difficult balance to find this gambling. but if you go 100 per roll your winnings would've been huge and you definitely would've bet 1k on the finishing ten ball. sounds harsh but this is why we review these things, so we can improve as gamblers.

very nice, but from other stories i've heard poker is still >>> craps (I know it's hard to believe).

[/ QUOTE ]

That depends on how you look at it. If you take all the crazy, 1,000 to 1 long shot bets that a crap table has & lump them together with the more even money bets & come up with a mathmatical mean for that game....then yeah....poker has a better EV. Waaaay better.

But, if a player stays away from "hopping the hardways", "world bets", & the "hi lo yo's" on the come out & such and just sticks to the basics where he has a much higher EV against the house...then...some poker games don't necessarily have a large edge over craps.

But, at the end of the day, you are still playing against the house & the game is tilted in their favor just as any other.

[/ QUOTE ]
Actually....no. OP won money on craps and broke even on poker. Therefore craps>poker.

[/ QUOTE ]

that's exactly right. I won like 553x more on Craps. Therefore it is >>> NL poker.

The odds on a $1k come-out are the same as on a $25 come-out roll. Nothing has changed except the balla-ness of the wager.

they let you put 1k odds behind a 25 come? sick

Not at this casino. 5x odds.

1...e5 > Sicilian defense

Seriously, play 1...e5 and the guys who aren't experts on the Spanish play some silly stuff which they don't know properly. This past weekend, at the Miami Winter Open, I was winning on move 20 on the black side of the two knights defense vs some 2200. (I'm lyk 2100 FIDE).

I used to play Sicilian Najdorf with Schev pawn center (...e6 instead of ...e5), it's so solid. The Dragon will presumably be refuted someday. And it doesn't even feel like playing chess, it's just "The Dragon." Lame.

Anyone worth their salt knows the Ruy Lopez better than any other opening line...

Agreed 110%, but the problem was my two idiot friends didn't bring enough to pay for dinner, entertainment, drinks, and gamble properly, so I had to loan them 40 black chips.

If my risk of ruin hadn't been unnecessarily jacked-up by their non-balla-ness that evening, I would have. They had maxed out their ATM on blackjack [dumb] and have no line of credit [dumber] that we ballers have.

going busto would have eliminated all fun outside of casino, plus the very +ev return to craps table with our two gorgeous good-luck charms.

Like you said, playing blacks would have resulted in $6k gain plus further $1k on the 10 bet for $7k. Clearly I erred in banking my friends [altho they also won nicely.]

That's stupid, why would d4 and c4 players know it best?
Clearly King's, Queen's or Nimzo or QGD for d4 playas.
