None of these use emulaters or other programs. Most of them have player commentary. I recently finished watching FF4 in 3:55 and found it vvv interesting to see the strategies used. Some of the games like Goldeneye 64 and Mariokart 64 are ultra competetive and have near perfect times. |

Fabian: which games did you do? Last summer I spent some of my free time all over that site and even started making some speed-runs myself, but never finishing any. I was doing SNES Rock 'N Roll Racing (I uploaded a FAQ on GameFaqs on my strategies there) - beating it with just the Marauder. And without using save states, I've been working on speed-running NES' Yo Noid. I can make it through the first three levels without taking a hit and as fast as humanly possible. But I can't manipulate some parts and it's tough to consistently time all the jumps, so I mess up eventually. [/ QUOTE ] I've done a 96 (all) exit run of Super Mario World. Out of all ~1300 movies submitted to the site in the ~3 years it's existed, this movie is the highest rated, and generally considered to be the most entertaining. Thinly veiled brag post I know, but I really am quite proud of it. To all of you, if you're interested in watching a tool-assisted speedrun, this definitely is a good choice, especially if you're at all familiar with Super Mario World. The other (really the first since I did it before Super Mario World) run I've done is of Super Demo World, which is a game created by some japanese guy. It uses the same game engine as Super Mario World (meaning it's the same game), but he's done the world/all the levels himself. It's a completely awesome game, seriously, the single most fun game I've ever played. My run of it is uploaded on google videos, so you can watch it here. There's 120 exits in the game so the video is long, but check out a few minutes to see what I'm talking about. If anyone wants to play the game (on an emulator) let me know and I'll try to find some instructions on how to find it. I'm also working on improving the 11 exit (shortest possible) Super Mario World run now, with the same guy I did the Super Demo World run with. It should be done in a few weeks. I think I recognize your name from the forums EscapePlan. Who knew you played poker too Edit: If anyone is interested in watching my Super Mario World run, here is a link to it. You can either download the emulator file, which is small, but you need to have the actual emulator as well as the Super Mario World rom, or you can download an avi file of it. |

The easiest solution (I think) is to download VLC, a very very good media player easily found via google. It plays these avi files without problem. |

If I can make a recommendation to you guys, watch the 70 star Mario64 run OR the 120 star Mario64 run. Both are played amazingly well. Lots of other good runs too, just watch the games you're familiar with I guess. |

I'm still amazed by the 70-star speed-run of Mario 64 on SDA. Anyone who has ever played Mario 64 should see it.
On another note, I've started to think TAS runs and serious poker playing attract similar people. I can't think of any reasons off the top of my head, but I feel like there's something there. |

The best speed run video is the Zelda OoT one in 2:15 by GuanoBowl and its not even close.
The best time previous to this was the 5 hour one on speeddemosarchive I believe. |

It's also important to note that it's a tool-assisted video and should not be compared (time-wise, anyway) to a regular speedrun. I can also mention that it's very improvable, I believe by about 30 minutes (estimated). |
