5. A noble cause worth fighting for.

Thats not an answer to the question. The difficult things in life are the hows. Anyone can say black people deserve the right to vote. The important thing to do is to take stock of their actions see how effective they are. Killing every white person in the south would have solved the race problem between whites and blacks. Is that ok to do because its for a noble cause?

The original question with new answers
If after four years of efforts to reduce racism in the south the number of lynchings of blacks had increased, fewer blacks were registering to vote out of fear, and the number of KKK members had increased- would you consider said efforts to be

1. A big success for a noble cause worth fighting for, no more problems with racism,
2. A moderate successfor a noble cause worth fighting for- lets keep doing the same thing.
3. A moderate failure for a noble cause worth fighting for- time to reasses and maybe adjust our tactics.
4. A complete failure for a noble cause worth fighting for- time for something new.

Here is the stuff you didnt see from the NIE that the NYT article was about: More of what you won't read in the NYT

Some choice excerpts:

"Threats to the U.S. are intrinsically linked to U.S. success or failure in Iraq."

"Progress toward pluralism and more responsive political systems in the Muslim world will eliminate many of the grievances jihadists exploit."

Yes, I know that I cant confirm the source of this information. But I dont know much about the anonymous sources of the NYT either.

More leaks in response to leaks. This document needs to be declassified and released now.

Bush said today that he would declassify the NIE in a press conference. In the clip that I heard, he slammed the leakers for being politically motivated, then he announces that he is leaking the whole darn thing to quell the storm!!! The irony is delicious.

The irony is in your post, as usual. It isnt a "leak" by definition.

There was another politically motivated leak of an April intelligence memo before the 2002 elections, I cant recall the topic. He was severely criticized for not defusing the issue by declassifying that one. At least he learns from his mistakes.

Hilarious! Except its not a leak, since a the Executive branch has the authority to declassify information...

While Vulture is technically correct (and I am technically incorrect), if it was necessary to keep the document classified to protect national security before the leak, it is still necessary. Why does Bush hate America?

because allowing a blatantly false impression remain in the publics mind is potentially more damaging to national security?

because sensitive parts can be redacted?

remember, this was not his effort to de-classify, it was a response to misinformation. (Which of course opens the door to the "theres a Rove under every bed" theory that this was a Republican leak so that the report could be declassified and be able to accuse the libs of pre-election dirty tricks)

Why are your posts stuck at the 0th level and so devoid of 1st and 2d level thinking? Reading and responding to even the short ones is quickly becoming -EV, they are so obviously biased and low content.

Declassfication doesnt mean "erase the Secret labels and hand it out". Its a process wherein sensitive information is removed to make the the document suitable for reading by anyone.
