Oh god... This reminded me of the constant rebuttal argument. We played like this:

I make your second to last cup. My teammate makes the last cup. Game over.
We start our turn with you having one cup. One of us makes it, one of us misses, you get 2 rebuttals. You just have to make one shot and the game continues. One of us makes it, the other chooses not to shoot, you get one rebuttal. You make it we keep playing. We both make the final cup, game over.

A nice change of pace game, for the superior player at Providence College, was to play battleship Beruit.
Our normal cups per side was 10 in the normal game, but instead of arranging them in the typical triangle, you aranged them in straight lines 2, 3, and 5 cups long. I'm sure others have done this, but it came out of my beer-addled brain one evening.

Another killer was Survivor flip-cup, where the losing side has to vote one player off, but maintain the same number of cups throughout the game regardless of the actual number of players.

Our rules exactly as well. Also, no penalties for overthrows, no auto-win crap at any time, and re-racks occur with six cups remaining (if you start with ten) and again with three cups remaining.

Regarding rebuttals: If you have two cups left and I make one then my teammate makes the other it is a fatality and the game is over. If this doesn't happen each player on the other teams gets to shoot until they miss. If the first player hits all of the remaining cups, the second player shoots to decide which team gets first shot in overtime (this is only an occasional rule and in other cases possession automatically goes to the first team to finish in regulation).

Looks like Mason has it figured out. Just remember that against an opponent who has seen my "Defensive Drills" video, you'll have a hard time landing a bounce shot. Just ask Fred McGriff.
