[/ QUOTE ] Nah, the criteria seems to be fairly consistent/standard. Whoever does the most self-promoting usually gets on the list. Unless, of course, there are enough fanboys promoting for you so there is no need for self-promotion. They use a tool called the fanboymeter to gauge how high certain players should be ranked. Fairly scientific if you ask me. Congrats though gobbo, you should be a bit higher considering i haven't heard of a good amt of these ppl toward the bottom of the list.

EDIT: Again, congrats Gobbo, there's no doubt that it's well deserved, and here's to more jaw-dropping success in the future. That being said, if I people start posting bi-weekly "rank gobbo higher!"/"gobbo broke the top 60!" type threads, I will find you people, tie you to a chair, track down your mothers, and do illegal, unspeakable, evil things to them while you watch. Grats again!!

Also, don't take the rankings too seriously as a gauge of skill or whatever. The rankings are meant to be a reflection of recent (maybe last year or so, with much more emphasis on the last 2-3 months) performance in 11r+ and 100f+ tournaments on the major sites (Dise, UB, Stars, Party, with a little attention paid to FTP and Bodog). I actually think they do a pretty good job following the action, although everything could always be improved. I don't think they say anywhere that the rankings denote the best players, as it's clear that a good portion of the list would be flat-out wrong if they were trying to rank overall poker skill.

I lurk from time-to-time in the forums there, but then a strategy post comes along and I see how many of the "top ranked" players have no grasp of basic tournament/poker strategy, etc. Pretty sad...

[/ QUOTE ] meh, i disagree. i think that, for the most part, the top ranked players on there are actually very talented tournament players -- its just their "minions" that are idiots.

ya, mlagoo, look at the 2 brsavage v aj/gobbo/lucky/n8 threads. its horrendous. OMG TOURNAMENT LIFE ON T HIGH! HE ONLY HAD T8o!!!
i still can't get over how awful that thread was. i was tempted to reply 20 times, but everything had already been repeated multiple times and it wasn't going to help, so i refrained...i would have just been frustrated in the end anyway
