Re: Heads Up Proposition

I didn't steal anything from anybody. In fact, about as much Caro as I've ever read is browing through his tells book in the bookstore. God forbid someone besides a published poker author try to...

Re: Heads Up Proposition

Think what you like, but no, I didn't expect anyone to take me up on it, nor am I interested in playing. What interests me is the intransitive nature of poker and I was hoping someone might be able...

Re: LIMCASH - 15/30 - first hand.

You got your information. The guy's way too passive to play HU. He should have realized he was ahead on the flop and there's no excuse for not 3-betting you. If you had an ace or pocket pair you'd...

Re: Heads Up Proposition

I've never seen it before, but it complicates my desire to rank heads up poker hands. So any idea why poker hand rankings aren't transitive?

Re: Heads Up Proposition

Sorry, meant to put this in the HU forum, but I guess the offer could be extrapolated to a 3- or 4-handed game.

Heads Up Proposition

I recently began a study of heads up poker, although I'm focusing primarily on limit. I'm a mathematician and have been examining the game from a theoretical standpoint. Initially I assumed poker...

Re: bottom pair on ace high board

Why put yourself in these positions in the first place? Why in the world did you call preflop with junk and what were you thinking calling the flop?? You have a weak pair, no reasonable draws, and...

Re: Am I a chip spewing idiot?

The way you played it, I'd probably raise the turn. I'm not sure I would have called pre-flop, it would have depended how aggressive SB is going after blinds.

My main question, though, is why not...

Re: 20/40 KK

I think you have to call the river. It's 14 big bets, so and MP probably paired his ace, but you don't have any information on him, and I think it's reasonable to think you have a 7% chance of...

Re: Why play short-handed?

Would you then consider table selection absolutely critical to profitting in a short-handed game, or are you willing to play anyone anytime?

Re: Why play short-handed?

Aren't reads more difficult to get short-handed? Take the extreme case of heads up, when a player is going to play such a large range of hands the exact same way.

Re: Why play short-handed?

The most common characteristic of a tilter is wanting to play way too many hands (typically to recover losses). This is related to point one. In a short-handed game, a maniac is going to be...

Re: Tricky situation with slick in SB

If the game in general is passive, I think check-call is better than check-raise-fold. Why try to make the game more aggressive by folding after a check-raise? It sends a signal that you might be...

Why play short-handed?

I think an important part in learning short-handed poker is discovering the reasons people play it. I'm come up with the following reasons for playing short-handed:

1. High volatility (potential...
