Recap: I've been dating this girl Nicole off-and-on for about three years now. We've been "off" for every Mother's Day.
Our mutual friend Julia asked me today what I'm getting Nicole for Mother's Day. I said, "Nothing." Julia: "Why not?" My reply: "Because she's never had a child." Now, this isn't going to be some bad beat story where she had a kid and the child died OR that she had a miscarriage. Neither of these situations is the case. I even asked if Julia thought she was currently pregnant. Emphatic no. This is simply a situation where Nicole was wondering to Julia what I was getting her for Mother's Day and Julia being smart enough to tell me, knowing there was no way in hell I would've gotten her anything otherwise. It's already ridiculous that I'm expected to get Mother's Day gifts for mothers in my life that aren't my mother (and I'm not talking my relatives, but random other people, like my buddies' mothers). Isn't there a principle here of too much gift-giving being ridiculous? Hell, I'll buy her something the day before and the day after, but it just seems positively insane to me that she wants a Mother's Day gift. Is this in any way standard? Has anyone else on the planet had a girlfriend or wife that expected a Mother's Day gift when they've never been even pregnant, let alone had a child? |

this is bizarre, Dude. Why on earth would she expect a gift if she's not a mom?? Dump her. I see weirdness coming in the not so distant future.
and for the record, I refuse to get Mother's Day presents for anyone but my Mom and Grandmother. |

My wife expects me to get her a Mother's Day gift for her from our six month old. I told her, "You're not my mother." She claims that I have to do this until my daugther is old enough to make her own. I told her I can get some fingerpaints, put my daughter's hands in them, and she'll "make her something".
I think it's just an excuse to get some jewelry. EDIT: Oh, and if she's not a mother, tell her to pull her head out. |

I'm guessing she's pregnant and just hasn't told you yet. Congratulations.

That's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. How hard is it to understand that Mother's Day is only for actual mothers?

Only if you refer to her as "Mommy" when she's blowing you.
