Dangers of myspace for a 13 year-old girl?

My friend's daughter, whom I somewhat help raise, really wants to get a myspace page like a lot of her friends have. Her Mom is a little concerned because she knows nothing about myspace. Any pitfalls we should be worried about? (other than OOT trainwrecks of course)

Obviously no personal/identity information. I'm thinking no pictures of her either. She's a pretty cute kid, and I really hate the thought of her winding up on some pervert teen-pic trading site. But I dunno, if all her friends have pics of themselves that might be pushing it too far.

Are they any other concerns I should tell her Mom to check into? The kid is generally savvy about predators and all that stuff, and has a good head on her shoulders.

I think it is ok. To me the funny part is that the people who are involved enough in the life of their child to care about this issue are probably the ones who don't have to worry. Good luck.

I think they have some kind of protection for kids under a certain age that requires them to ok who can look at their page.

i think it's ok too. as long as she knows what is ok and what to watch out for and it sounds like she does.

about the pics, you can change settings so that only people you accept as friends can view pics, so that's something to consider also.

p.s. i didn't start sending out the n00dz until i was like 15!

What I think is weird is that my boss has this picture of his kids on his desk, and when I was browsing myspace for people in a 10 mile radius the same picture of his kids showed up. The girl is like 12. I thought about saying something to him about it, but he'd probably think I'm a creep so F it. I'll let another sexual predator hop all over it.
