Default NETeller ATM Card - Seems Like A Joke

background - I'm a Canadian citizen going to Vegas in a week, and am looking for the cheapest way to get money in USD to Vegas.

I have plenty of money in NETeller, and applied and got the NETeller ATM card in preparation for this trip. It seemed very helpful to be able to withdraw $ from my ATM card and just redeposit it while in Vegas, saving me tons in exchange fees.

However, after talking to the customer service rep (who was extremely helpful), this card seems like it's worth nothing to anybody. Does anyone actually use this? You can't put money back into your account from the card, and you can't deposit to the card. It seems ridiculous:

Chat InformationPlease wait for a site operator to respond.
Chat InformationYou are now chatting with 'Devyn'
Devyn: Welcome to our live chat service. How may we help you?
Chris: hi devyn, I have a few questions regarding the NETeller ATM card
Devyn: Absolutely, how can I help you?
Chris: 1. what is the withdrawal limit on the ATM card (daily/weekly/etc.)
Devyn: The limit is $1,000.00 every 24 hours.
Chris: 2. is it possible to deposit money back to the NETeller card through a bank machine, and if so which machines am I able to do this with
Devyn: Unfortunately that is not an option. It is only used for withdrawals.
Chris: 3. what is the fee for putting money back into my NETeller account from the ATM card?
Chris: i.e. if i put 1500 dollars onto my card, and withdraw 1000, what would it cost to put the leftover 500 back into my NETeller account
Devyn: Unfortunately you are also unable to transfer funds from the card back to the account.
Chris: so any amount that I transfer to my card has to be withdrawn from an atm?
Devyn: Yes
Chris: do fees (i.e. the $2 transfer fee from NETeller to ATM) come out of the actual NETeller account, or out of the ATM amount
Chris: and the same question - but for withdrawal fees from an atm
Devyn: The $2.00 fee comes out of the amount you are requesting be put on the card. (i.e. you transfer $100.00 from the account, you will receive $98.00 on the card). And the other fees will be taken from the card as well, never the account.
Chris: okay - you have been very helpful and i appreciate it very much
Devyn: You're very welcome. Is there anything else I can assist with?
Chris: all your answers were very helpful - no I think we've covered everything
Chris: thank you and have a good day

Its odd that you can't take money off the card back into your neteller account. I'm not sure how you would expect to be able to deposit cash back into your account with the card though. Is it possible to do this with other online accounts that don't have B@M locations?

I didn't really "expect" to be able to deposit back into my NETeller (wishful thinking ), but it seems ridiculous to put 3000 onto your ATM card and have to withdraw that exact amount

Default MORE JOKES

It is called the scam the customer Neteller service policy.

HAHAHAHA. SO the silly customer puts 100 on his card, $2 fee leaves him with $98 available. Find an ATM machine that will give you $98. Most ATMs will only go down to $20, some $10. So you will be able to get $90, leaving $8 on the card.

I believe cards with a balance after so many days get zeroed out and Neteller just keeps the money, which is why you can't transfer from the card back into your account.

I think the best way to do things for your Vegas trip is just take CDN currency. The Casino cage will be glad to exchange it for you, and probably won't rip you off half as bad as Neteller on the exchange fees.

not true. because of the fees I always have $0-19.50 on the debit card balance and it never goes away.

the fees are a bit much, but if you're only withdrawing a grand at a time they're really not *that* bad % wise.

IMO the only good thing about the card is the speed - only way I know of to get money from party poker to my wallet by tonight.

it's a [censored] joke

I find it amusing that I'd have to transfer an amount like $1506 to the ATM to be able to withdraw $1500 (with $2 transfer fee and $2 withdrawal fee twice) so that I don't lose some amount under $20 to the system

True. At some point you are going to have to recognize that the $0 - $19.50 that is ALWAYS on your card is unavailable to you, you lost it.

The fact that you have paid this extra $0-$20 just once for multiple transactions doesn't really help the OP, who was wanting to do 1 or 2 transactions for a trip. He will have the same hidden $20 fee if he isn't careful.

Why can't you just transfer $4.50 more onto the card (assuming you had $19.50 on the card), then withdraw $20?

you definitely can. You need to know how much the ATM is going to charge, but no that money is not lost forever.

From their Deposits page:

"When you sign up for a NETELLER Debit Card you will be able to transfer funds from your debit card back to your NETELLER account. Debit Card deposits are instant."
