Once he takes the initiative on the flop and CO drops out, I would be inclined to let him keep it. If he is behind with Ace high for instance and doesn't pass you on the turn or river, then just calling down and betting when checked to will probably win you one fewer small bet than raising the flop and betting the turn and river. That seems like a worthwile sacrifice to see to it that you don't get yourself into a position where you have to either make an expensive calldown or fold what may be the best hand. If you knew you could trust him, neither would be as much of a concern. But there are very few opponents that I know I can trust.
