Default Boarding Planes with Large Cash

This must have been covered somewhere, but my search didn't turn anything up.

I'm going on an extended poker trip and will need to take a decent amount of cash. Does anyone here have experience with this?

Someone told me you have to be careful, because airport security can at the very least give you problems and at worst, confiscate the money. I'd appreciate any info on this.

Btw- Where I'm going does not accept wire transfers and I really don't want to pay the rake for getting traveler's checks.

if it's domestic don't sweat it - if it's international, suck it up and get travellers checks (only because you cant wire).

Are you going overseas (from the US)? Because if you leave/enter the U.S. with more than 10k in cash (and that might include stuff like TC's not sure), you have to declare it. I don't really know what happens thereafter, they probably at least question you to make sure you aren't a drug dealer, but if you don't report it and they find it...er, not so good.

It's not a great discussion, but it has some interesting articles about the worst that could happen.

No. All flights are in the U.S. Do you think security will give me a problem if it's over 10k?

I'm pretty sure no one will mind. Just fold it up.

Guys,

I was going to post this on thehendonmob and see what they say, but seeing as Lestat started this thread I guess I'll chip in with my question here.

I live in England and will be heading to the WSOP this summer. I'll be taking a fair amount, more than 10k. I guess from the above my best option is to just wire it to Bellagio and hope the exchange rate I get isn't too bad? I was gonna go w/ travellers cheques but after reading what Ray Zee said in that other thread that may not be such a good idea.
