losing streaks
This may be in the wrong place but as I play exclusively on the internet here goes:
I have read that with a sufficient bankroll you have a 5% chance of going broke. I have been playing for 3 years, at small limits, and am now in the middle of my fourth losing streak; the first time I had battled through the learning process and had made about $2000 playing 2/4 on party; I lost $1600 of that during Jan/Feb 2005. I built my bankroll back up to about $8000 by playing sit and goes, mainly at party, with a win rate of 40%; since Dec 2005 I cannot win a sng and have been bonus chasing; after several weeks of winning at small limits (.25/.50) I suddenly find, again, that my raises are reraised, I cannot hit a flop, and my big hands are constantly beaten by 52o. Am I just unlucky or are these sort of swings something that just have to be accepted? Goethe |

Re: losing streaks
3 years and only 4 losing streaks? sounds pretty lucky to me
guess I could add something worthwhile, there is no shame in moving down limits. If you get in a rut and nothing is going your way, take a step back go over your game and move down til it comes back |

Re: losing streaks
With a proper bankroll and a high enough winrate, your chances of going broke can actually be a lot lower than 5%. And if your winrate is actually a "loss rate", your chances of going broke are closer to 100%, no matter how big your bankroll is.
