In all situations mentioned, I make a pot-sized raise with TT+, complete with all other pairs.

Re: Noob Question #3 - PPs in the SB after limpers
I probably raise farther down than Fishmonger, down to about 88 - it's extremely likely I have the best hand, and I should get money in with it, even though underpairs to the high card on the flop are horrendous to play from out of position (which is why I'm probably not going below 88). With 88 and 99 I'm thrilled to take down the blinds, but regardless I'm going to vary my bet size around the standard (3 + limps) * BBL in order to not give away my hand.
Ideally I don't want more than one caller, and my play on the flop depends on the nature of the caller. If they'd hang onto any ace and an ace flops, I'm probably check-folding. If the flop is scary but not too scary -- one overcard -- then I'm probably showing aggression about 75% of the time, which means betting if the opponent is passive and mixing mostly bets and a few check/raises if the opponent is aggressive. Of course with sets and overpairs I'm going to try to get as much money in the pot as possible, and only start to worry if the opponent shows substantial aggression indicative of a set. Part of the reason to raise something like 88 preflop is to cut down the implied odds if I flop overpair vs. set. More than one caller will make me less aggressive on the flop. A paired board will make me more aggressive, particularly if the unpaired card is not a face card / overcard. |

Re: Noob Question #3 - PPs in the SB after limpers
Another noob here. In Scenarior 1, I'd be tempted to do raise w/ 77 once in awhile. I'd probably raise to $1, since that's what I raise w/ my good hands.
With 2 opponents, I might go as low as 99, and I'd raise to $1.25 or $1.50. I don't want more than 1 opponent. With 3, I go TT to $1.50-2.00. With 4, I go JJ to $1.75-2.25. |
