Default Lost half my BR in a few days

Doesnt feel very good writing this but I do it anyway.. Here we go..

The last 10 days has been the worst in my poker life this far. My $16k BR has became $8k.

I may not be the best player in the world (am not for sure..) but one thing I have been very good at is to take a break of at least 1-2 days after a big loss. Also I use to be very careful that I eat and drink enough before playing to get harmony in myself and the game.

What happened now is that everything has gone against me at the tables, so I havent been very good at the principles above. This wednesday I lost 800, normally I take it easy the day after but this time I lost another 1800. Yesterday I came home drunk thinking I give it a last try and play some 5/10 but I know I dont have near the BR needed for that game.. Didnt go very well.

Now I am playing mainly NL600 (most often single-tabling), should I?

* Move down to NL400
* Move down to NL200 (huh!?)
* Something else
* Quit

I am also thinking seriously to buy Poker Tracker and use that and PA hud instead of Poker Office that I use now. This because I can analyze more and get a new fresh database.

Should mention that I have a almost full-time-job (about 30 hrs/week) so losing my BR is not the end of the world..

Someone else with the same experience? Some thoughts on this in general?

Remember this aint BBV so try to spare me the sarcasm. Also, I am not after sympathy, just advices how to move on so I dont do something really stupid.

move up to 2k NL, 8k is only 4 buyins there, it's 20 buyins at 400 NL though, you can win your money back 5x as fast

move down to nl400 and crush it.....feb/march i lost 6gs at 400nl and moved down to 200nl......i have a 7500 br now, but i really dont plan on moving up to 400nl....200nl is sooo crushable....ill move up when i hit 5figs....move down and/or goto sngs for a bit....that should remedy ur downswing....

If I were you I'd play some 200nl until you reach 10k and then move up. If you practice a 15 buyin BR management then your roll is going to become extremely volatile, especially as you move up.

So really my only advice to is, practice 25x buyin BR management at least, I'm pretty sure quite a few people on this board have experienced what you have experienced, I could name a few. Why did it happen to them? BR management.

I think it's a good idea to play 400NL. FWIW I think one should consider moving down a while, adequate bankroll or not, when you lose 13 buyins at these stakes, which are not really that swingy. You need to get some confidence back in order to play optimal, so move down and beat up some easier games. Also, IMO 12+ buyin downswings at stakes below 1000NL should make you seriously consider whether or not you can beat the game.

Earlier in my poker career when I've ran real bad I've switched games a while, just to get something new going. Sometimes when you sit down during a downswing you're just in a very negative state of mind, which is obviously very detrimental to your playing. Playing a fresh game can get you out of that mindset, and playing different sorts of poker also improves your basic understanding quite a lot.

this was smart to do when running bad

when you run poorly move down until you regain your confidence

sorry to hijack, but on the problem of playing drunk: what kind of safeguards do you all put in place?

i play on party but i keep about $50 on another site so that i can play $5 HU SNGs, etc., when i'm wasted. it's just too expensive to donk away buyins when my thinking is impaired.

Even when I'm shitfaced I have enough sense and respect for my bankroll that I'd never put it in jeopardy by playing while intoxicated.
