Default PokerOffice Thread

Should the PokerOffice thread I moved here always be deleted as spam? Would it matter if the op was in the classified ads? Would it then be ok in the software forum? Mike or Mat may delete that thread if desired.

Thanks,

Jim

In my opinion, announcements like this should be allowed in the software forum!

Those that own the product should receive an announcement of the upgrade. Those that do not own the product are being spammed or at the very least the company is getting free advertising. Now, if a current forum member makes a post and says that there is an update that's very cool then I think that's okay (as long as he's not an employee of the company).

Agreed. We allowed PokerAce to announce his product there.

I'll move it to Software in a couple of hours' time, if no one objects too strongly.

The same thread is already in the software forum.
I need someone to let me know what the actual policy is regarding these types of posts.

There is another thread (MTH v2.013 released) in the software forum that could be considered free advertising. Because the OP just started charging for the program, I've let it go for now. Guidance would be appreciated here.

The Software forum is designed so people can discuss and comment on various software applications. Not so software developers can promote their products. If they want to do that they can buy advertising space. Or perhaps they can sponsor (or co-sponsor) the Software forum and then they can promote selfishly as much as they want. At the very least, it's been a policy that URLs to commercial sites are not allowed. I understand there's a balance between making the forum as valuable as possible and understanding the commercial aspects of 2+2. Since Mat probably doesn't check the board as often as some perhaps a PM or email to him would be in order. But my current understanding is no commercial messages so unless Mat says otherwise I'd be hesitant to allow them.

In this situation it's close. When I made all the decisions, a thread like this with positive responses would be allowed to stay up. if the thread caused people to complain later, I would delete it.

Personally, I use Poker Office exclusively and have always liked their product so I'm all for promoting them so they have more $s to develop with. Somebody (Jim I guess) should ask them to only make posts like that in one forum. The fact they made it in two is what turns it into spamming.
