How much can a winning high-stakes player make?
I'm currently a low limit player building a bankroll in the soft games. I'm excited to move up limits in the future, but how much more can you make at high stakes against tougher competition? How tough IS the competition up there in high-stakes land? How much money can you make per year/month/hour?
Just curious. |

If you are decent and I just don't mean you have read a book or two. You should be able to average between $50-$90/100hands and not play any higher than 30-60. You could probably average more in the higher stakes but then you have to be really good. I.e one of the slovenians(I willn't say who) made 500k July-Dec of 2005.

Re: How much can a winning high-stakes player make?
game selection (given a minimum level of game selection) and $/year are slightly negatively correlated imo. you can play more hands if you play worse games in which you are still a winner. but you earn less /hr.
you CAN (read: i know people who have) earn(ed) ~$4/hand or 400/100 hands if you are the absolute top of the online poker community. $/month varies less but the best can earn on average 120k/month. i know very very very few (i.e. 1 or 2 if they played as much as they possibly could to the detriment of their enjoyment of life) whose expecation is above this level. this equates to 1.44million/year. the probability of you being able to earn this in the future is negligible. more likely if you study hard and play well and not tilt you can probably earn 100-200k/year. many i know easily do this with plenty of time to live and enjoy life. yet even they are regarded at the top of this level by their peers. so while the probabilityof you accomplishing this is way larger than the 1.44million, it is still pretty small. the rest of where you end up is probably distributed between 5/10 (high win rate here) and 30/60 (low win rate here) Barron |

Re: How much can a winning high-stakes player make?
Is 1 BB/100 at 50/100 that hard to achieve ? 6 tabling them for 1BB/100 hands would earn you ~400/hour considering 40 hours * 40 weeks is roughly : 600k per year.
Let's assume you don't want to play them because the 30/60 is a better game and assuming you would be decent(1 BB/100), you could earn 400k per year. I mean if someone was willing to put a lot of time to study his game and play a lot, this kind of figures are not that hard to achieve in my opinion. |
