Default better politics forums

Any suggestions for better politics forums? Something with a good spread of opinions and a sprinkling of well-informed/expertise-endowed posters would be ideal. This one used to be decent but its degeneration into the repetition of mastubatory fantasies regarding either the nuclear genocide of Muslims or the secret machinations of th3 r3al 911 planners is making it unreadable.

the only suggestions I have are democraticunderground.com and revolutionaryleft.com (this one would really get under the skin of most of the posters here). I post on niether but I do read them every once in a while.

I emphatically agree that the number of idiotic posters here are very annoying. I enjoy the AC posts asthey make me think, but the many, many people who blindly support Israel/nuclear warfare/ conspiracy theories/ Charlie Sheen are getting to be very annoying.

Politics ought to have a rule of only allow one conspiricy theory thread a week. That would help a lot and no one can say that it was shut down by the illuminiati or the Masons.

It's an internet politics forum. It will probably attract those with non-mainstream views. IIRC, the politics forum was started either just before or after the Bush/Gore election and the Mason (not the Masons) said that if interest waned after the election, it would be eliminated. This is a poker website, so the idea of a second politics forum probably won't go over real well. But if there's enough sentiment for it, I'll propose it.

The problem with conspiracy theories is that they rely on very imperfect information. Even if it is true that the US planned 9-11 or ordered Kennedy's assassination or whatever, no one with a few frames of a video and photoshop can really make an argument one way or the other.

Doesn't really get us anywhere either; it just reflects the mistrust we have in the government, which is obviously quite a bit.

Political and economic theory is much more fun

One thing you can do as a mod is to curtail the conspiricy threads somehow. I think you should make a rule that only allows one thread a week that is conspiricy related. Lock the rest of them.

How about moving conspiracy theory posts to BBV and be done with them in politics forum?

I'd rather not censor what issues can and can't be discussed. One can always just ignore threads that aren't of interest.

I don't think you need to do that, but it would be nice if all of the "Charlie Sheen is my idol" or other 9/11/01 conspiracy theory posts were kept to a single thread. Those threads always degenerate into garbage anyway, no matter how great or little potential they had to start out with.
