Strangly played QQ agaisnt a set miner.
SB is one of those 8/2 type guys over not too many hands. If I had to guess he is probably one of those set miners.
BB is really shortstacked and loose passive. 100NL 6max on party I($118) get QQ utg+1. UTG folds, I raise to $3, folded to sb($104) who calls, BB($15) calls. Flop($9): J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Check, check, I bet $6, SB calls, BB folds. Turn($21): 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Check, I check behind River($21): 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] SB bets $8, I raise to $22 |

Re: Strangly played QQ agaisnt a set miner.
I like to make a closer to pot sized bet here on the flop. If it is a set miner do you have any idea how he plays his sets?
If thats the case I would 2/3Pot bet the turn and check and call any normal bet on the river. Then again i'm kind of new, anyone else agree with my advice? |

Re: Strangly played QQ agaisnt a set miner.
He either tried to slowplay a set and got frustrated and bet out the turn, or he took your turn check as weakness after a missed continuation bet and is betting out to try and take it down. I'd just call the river.
I think 2/3 pot on the flop is fine...my preference is pot-sized or close to it, but I don't think it's something that makes or breaks this hand. |

Re: Strangly played QQ agaisnt a set miner.
i would bet the turn at about 1/2 pot. size of bet needs to be big enough to give u information about his hand, but not big enough to push out draws (since they aren't likely).
if he calls, i would be wary on the river. if he raises, i'd consider if this guy has seen u push others off at the turn and whether he may be putting u on nothing or something weak. without a read, i would fold. |

Raising this river is really bad and I think you probably realized it as soon as you clicked raise

Re: Strangly played QQ agaisnt a set miner.
raise more preflop.
whats with the river raise??? You say he's a set miner, he calls a flop bet on a COMPLETELY drawless board, he bets out the river, and you raise for value?? |

I have to believe he would bet a set stronger here. I like the river raise and folding to re-raise. |

So raising only makes you win the min and lose the max. |
