Default AK, TPTK VS river push?

I had no reads as the villian just sat down a few hands ago.

As it was played, i thought that the flop was good for my hand but as i go to the river i was really uncomfortable playing in a really big pot with just top pair to kicker.

Do i need learn how to control pot size?

Did i misplay this anywhere?

The only likely holdings that I can see are 55, 99, KQ, and maybe AA, QQ or JJ (although they probably would have been reraised PF)...I think here most of the time you are up against a set of 5's or 9's......fold

As played, I think checking behind on the turn would have been a better option....I helps to control the pot size since there are no obvious draws on the board.....

As much as I don't like this, I can't possibly fold for barely over 1/2 pot. This seems to me like a really bizarre line for a set...he could have JT or 98 a decent amount of the time, I think. I don't understand what other two pair or set would wait for the river to pop it.

With no reads, "maybe" is right, we can't make the assumption that villain is actually any good. I mean, he did take a really odd line with a set, if he does in fact have one. To me the crux of this is the fact that open-pushing the river just screams "I missed my draw" most of the time...or maybe I'm just running good on my river-bluff-snap-offs recently, I don't know.
