Default Ameritrade or Scottrade?

Help me decide. I'm looking for an online brokerage to buy mutual funds and stocks. In regards to stocks, I'll be looking to buy stocks to hold anywhere from 6 months to several years, so no quick turn around.

What broker to use is more a personal preference than anything else. Scottrade is slightly cheaper on commissions, but you may prefer ameritrades research or other tools better.

I like Firstrade. I am not a fan of Scottrade - they pull a hard inquiry of your credit report even if you're not trading on margin. Sorry, but that's a bit too invasive for a brokerage account for me.

I'm using Etrade. I don't have a ton of money on there but it's enough to get past any basic fees. I have yet to see any sort of consensus on which is the best online brokerage firm so I haven't moved. I guess etrade is pretty reasonable. I have no particular complaints.

I use Scottrade because they were the cheapest a couple years ago when I signed up. No fees other than comissions for stocks/mutual funds. I dont use their research tools so that is not important to me. I have been happy with Scottrade but my expectations are not that high

You have been saying that in a couple threads now, why?

how do you even know they ran a credit report on you?

to my knowledge, when i created my account, they didn't run any sort of credit report. I walked into my local branch, filled out the application, turned it in, and went i got home i was able to immedialty log into my account.

I just opened an account with scottrade, after searching I decided I liked this one the best. I applied online and they ran a credit check on me also but I have no issue with that.
