Default Felicia, Beset - suggestion...

Could we put together a O8 noob sticky post containing the standard response to the weekly "I'm a nOOb, what books/sites/threads should I look into" posts?

Or should we just point them to gergery's site & make him do more work on it???

Here's a starter list (add at will):

Ray Zee's High Low Split Poker for Advanced Players
Tenner & Kreiger
o8poker.com
Hutchison system (and others)
Steve Badger's site
Buzz posts
Hand Converters
Hand odds calculator
Crying baby image
Software (PTO, Wilson Turbo, etc...)
Online site reviews

Can also include what a WM all caps post means...cause you know it's just a matter of time...

Something else that I think is very helpful that I found in the Multi-table Tournament section....

the Anthology of Really Really Good Posts (I'm paraphrasing)

I've been reading through those recently and have come up with very helpful thoughts.

A sticky for that would be great.

I think you cannot stick books list on any forum, for obvious reasons . But the idea is nice anyway and this antology of posts would be great.

Yeah, sorry. Mason pretty much outlawed this.

Outlawed the whole idea, or just the books?

I know the 'Anthology of Really Really Good Posts' is OK, but did he put the kabosh on lists of external links also?

Just want to know what the boundaries are...

From things he has said over the past year...

He doesn't like separate FAQ's at all, but if a forum "must" have one, keep it general to 2+2, not specific.

He doesn't really like us to refer to outside sites, but if we do, try to keep it limited to those with no banners, flashing ads, etc, because then he feels like 2+2 is "referring" someone to an ad site, and that is not the case.

He doesn't want us to recommend books, not even 2+2 books, because then it looks like we are promoting for them.

Yes, having a link in the FAQ back to a "great post" is less threatening to him. I just haven't done it. If someone wants to link up a "great thread" or "great post" which includes the "best books recommended" or the "best non-ad sites" for this or that, I would use those for the FAQ.

As you can see, Mason subscribes to the less-is-more school of thought, so I'm not going to make a huge, awesome FAQ, when he is only going to make me take it down (you can already see the FAQ has shrunk up over the past year, due to him making me take down several links).

Another post today asking about books ... on the heels of another post 2 days ago.

No offense, but if you or Beset can't do it, then I will. I'll make my own post called "books" or "noobs", or something like that, and then I'll bump it every day until my 275 cholesterol finally sends me home to Satan. Seriously, the number of posts we get from beginners that all ask the same questions has long passed the ridiculous mark.

Niss,

I think it would be great if you could start a "Anthology of Really Really Great Posts" thread.

Some thoughts on which threads to include from others would be great.

I would like to suggest a link to some threads that:

1. List the best books
2. I'd like to suggest th A 4 thread (not because I started it...but because Buzz did some really strong work on it and it's been referred to a couple times already.)

Thanks to both Niss and Felicia,

Ironman Dave

This is a gret idea, specially because the search function has a 200 results limit
wich is not enough IMO.

Exactly, this should become a sticky. Hopefully it won't become a comments exchange post.

Don't hold your breath waiting for this, as I am all talk and no action. But if I can ever get to it, I will.
