Default Playing Trips Weak-Tight?

$1/$2 NoLimit at a B&M... table seems completely average.

Dealt 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] on the Button.
(Hero's stack is $150+ and has both villians in this hand covered.)

Two limpers (don't remember exact position... probably UTG+1 and MP).

Hero raises to $15.
BB calls.
UTG+1 calls. (Other limper folds).

$17 in pot pre-flop.

Flop comes: T [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

BB bets $35.
UTG+1 raises all-in to $75.

Hero: ??????

Obviously the $15 pre-flop raise limited their hand ranges quite a bit. Do you assume the BB is on an AT [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]? UTG+1 possibly on TT for a higher set?

I don't read either of them as being loose enough to call a $15 pre-flop raise with QJ, unless it was suited, so QJ [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] is a possibility.

Can I lay down this middle set to this action in front of me? Do I call this? Or do I raise this up, hoping to scare off the BB and hope UTG+1 has AT?

push. at a b&m you will see people push with a WIDE range of hands. you are way ahead of almost everything except for a QJ diamands or 1010.
15 dollar perflop raise is standard raises at almost every 1-2NL table. STANDARD. people will call 3 reds with anything.

Alright... so this is playing pretty weak then.

I guess I just need to stop assuming that people are holding the best-possible hand against me, and consider the rest of the range as well.

I hadn't even considered 88 or JJ or AX [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. I saw the initial bet, and assumed AT [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] for TPTK+NFD. Then, when I saw the re-raise, I assumed TT for top set.

Not that the results matter... but here's the conclusion to the hand:
Hero folded.
BB called.

UTG+1 shows: QJ [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] for the flopped straigt+FD
BB shows: AT [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] for the TPTK+NFD

Turn: 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (giving BB the NF)
River: 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (pairing the board, which would have given me the FH)

I know I shouldn't be results-oriented, so I can't really take anything away from this, but it definitely left an impression on me as a situation that I need to improve my game.

You want to see all 5 cards. Sure someone with a monster draw has odds to chase, but you have decent pot equity in most scenarios.

heres some advice, dont fold a set in a 1-2NL game at a B&M. unless the board is unpaired 4 to a flush 4 to a straight. even then you will prolly see donks going all in with top two.

Correction - trips is when there is two on the board; i.e. you have A9 10 9 9 flop. Set is when you hold a PP and there is one on the board; i.e. the hand you just posted. This isn't even close push it all day and if one flopped the straight/flush you have outs!

That's funny actually.... I've only played at a B&M a couple times, but both times the only big pots that I've lost have been trips.

Last time I went there was a very similar situation to this, where I raised $10 pre-flop with 44. Flop came out 346(rainbow). Two all-ins in front of me (again, I had them both covered), so I called. First pusher had 57o for the flopped straight. Second pusher had pocket overpair.

Other than these two hands, I'd be up a TON more than I already am from those casino trips...

Poker....

dont be results oriented. a set is the biggest money making hand IMHO. folding a set is just stupid unless the board warrants it. in this case you still had 2 cards to redraw on.
